III Year I Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: NT511OE \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a03\/0\/0\/3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course overview:<\/strong> The aim is to introduce students the overview of the non destructive\u00a0testing methods of materials. The course covers NDE, Ultrasonic, MPI testing of metal parts.\u00a0It gives an idea about selection of the testing criteria. It briefly describe the thermo-graph and\u00a0radio graph methods of testing and provide selection properties for different tests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong> This course has the basic idea of the properties of steal and ferrous\u00a0metals. The objectives aim to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the basic methods of testing.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the concept of non destructive testing.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the various types of NDT tests carried out on components.<\/li>\n<li>Describe ultrasonic method of testing the materials.<\/li>\n<li>Analyze the different types of test carried out on components and surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the properties of materials suitable for NDT test.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the radiography uses in engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes<\/strong>: At the end of the course the students are able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the requirements of testing criteria as per material composition.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the theory of non destructive testing methods is used.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the type of requirement of non destructive test.<\/li>\n<li>Distinguish between the various NDT test as Ultrasonic and Eddy current methods.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the properties of radiation used in engineering.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the various types of non destructive test used to determine the surface\u00a0cracks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT &#8211; I :\u00a0<\/strong>Overview of NDT &#8211; NDT Versus Mechanical testing, Overview of the Non Destructive\u00a0Testing Methods for the detection of manufacturing defects as well as material\u00a0characterization.
