III Year II Sem. \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code:MM602PC \u00a0 \u00a0 4\/0\/0\/4<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objective:<\/strong> The basic objective of this course is to provide in depth knowledge about\u00a0various metal joining techniques, the thermal, residual, and transformational stresses\u00a0associated with, the equipment used, their modern developments, and defects and\u00a0defectoscopy of weldments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Outcome:<\/strong> The student will be able to apply various metal joining techniques for\u00a0various ferrous and nonferrous alloys, fixing of process parameters to obtain a sound\u00a0welding, precautionary measures to be taken to avoid weld defects, and advancements in\u00a0Metal Joining technologies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-I :\u00a0<\/strong>Classification of welding processes. Principles, advantages disadvantages and fields of<br \/>\napplication of the following welding processes: Gas Welding, Arc Welding processes,\u00a0MMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW, ESW &amp; EGW, Resistance Welding. Other metal joining\u00a0techniques: Brazing, Soldering and Adhesive bonding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-II<\/strong> :\u00a0Working principle. Advantages and limitations of solid state welding processes. Friction,<br \/>\nfriction stir, explosive, diffusion and ultrasonic welding\u00a0Advanced Metal Joining Techniques: Plasma Arc Welding, Electron Beam Welding, Laser\u00a0welding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-III :<\/strong>\u00a0Weldability, Microstructure of fusion zone and heat affected zone. Influence of heat input,<br \/>\nthermal and residual stresses, pre heat and cooling rate, PWHT.
