II Year II Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: EI402ES \u00a04\/0\/0\/4<br \/>\nPre-requisites: Nil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives<\/strong>: This course provides in-depth knowledge of switching theory and the\u00a0design techniques of digital circuits, which is the basis for design of any digital circuit. The\u00a0main objectives are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To learn basic techniques for the design of digital circuits and fundamental concepts\u00a0used in the design of digital systems.<\/li>\n<li>To understand common forms of number representation in digital electronic circuits\u00a0and to be able to convert between different representations.<\/li>\n<li>To implement simple logical operations using combinational logic circuits<\/li>\n<li>To design combinational logic circuits, sequential logic circuits.<\/li>\n<li>To explain the complete response of R-C and R-L-C transient circuits.<\/li>\n<li>To explain clippers, clampers, switching characteristics of transistors and sampling\u00a0gates.<\/li>\n<li>To construct various multivibrators using transistors, and design of sweep circuits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes<\/strong>: Upon completion of the course, students should possess the following\u00a0skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be able to manipulate numeric information in different forms, e.g. different bases,\u00a0signed integers, various codes such as BCD.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to manipulate simple Boolean expressions using the theorems and postulates\u00a0of Boolean algebra and to minimize combinational functions.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to design and analyze small combinational circuits and to use standard\u00a0combinational functions\/building blocks to build larger more complex circuits.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to design and analyze small sequential circuits and devices and to use\u00a0standard sequential functions\/building blocks to build larger more complex circuits.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the applications of diode as integrator, differentiator, clippers, and\u00a0clamper circuits.<\/li>\n<li>Learn various switching devices such as diode, transistor, SCR.
