This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for IT Workshop B.Tech 2016-2017 (R16) \u00a0second year first sem is as follows.<\/p>\n<p>B.Tech. II Year I Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code:\u00a0CS307ES \u00a00\/0\/3\/2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The IT Workshop is a training lab course to get training on PC Hardware, Internet &amp;\u00a0World Wide Web, and Productivity tools for documentation, Spreadsheet\u00a0computations, and Presentation.<\/li>\n<li>To introduce to a personal computer and its basic peripherals, the process of\u00a0assembling a personal computer, installation of system software like MS Windows,\u00a0Linux and the required device drivers, hardware and software level troubleshooting\u00a0process.<\/li>\n<li>To introduce connecting the PC on to the internet from home and workplace and\u00a0effectively usage of the internet, Usage of web browsers, email, newsgroups and\u00a0discussion forums. To get knowledge in awareness of cyber hygiene, i.e., protecting\u00a0the personal computer from getting infected with the viruses, worms and other cyber\u00a0attacks.<\/li>\n<li>To introduce the usage of Productivity tools in crafting professional word documents,\u00a0excel spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations using open office tools and LaTeX.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply knowledge for computer assembling and software installation.<\/li>\n<li>Ability how to solve the trouble shooting problems.<\/li>\n<li>Apply the tools for preparation of PPT, Documentation and budget sheet etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PC Hardware:<\/strong> The students should work on working PC to disassemble and assemble to\u00a0working condition and install operating system like Linux or any other on the same PC.\u00a0Students are suggested to work similar tasks in the Laptop scenario wherever possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 1:<\/strong> Every student should identify the peripherals of a computer, components in a\u00a0CPU and its functions. Draw the block diagram of the CPU along with the configuration of\u00a0each peripheral and submit to your instructor. Every student should disassemble and\u00a0assemble the PC back to working condition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 2:<\/strong> Every student should individually install operating system like Linux or MS\u00a0windows on the personal computer. The system should be configured as dual boot with both\u00a0windows and Linux.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 3:<\/strong> Hardware Troubleshooting: Students have to be given a PC which does not boot\u00a0due to improper assembly or defective peripherals. They should identify the problem and fix\u00a0it to get the computer back to working condition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 4:<\/strong> Software Troubleshooting: Students have to be given a malfunctioning CPU due\u00a0to system software problems. They should identify the problem and fix it to get the computer\u00a0back to working condition.\u00a0Internet &amp; World Wide Web.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 5:<\/strong> Orientation &amp; Connectivity Boot Camp: Students should get connected to their\u00a0Local Area Network and access the Internet. In the process they configure the TCP\/IP setting.\u00a0Finally students should demonstrate how to access the websites and email.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 6:<\/strong> Web Browsers, Surfing the Web: Students customize their web browsers with\u00a0the LAN proxy settings, bookmarks, search toolbars and pop up blockers. Also, plug-ins like\u00a0Macromedia Flash and JRE for applets should be configured.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 7<\/strong>: Search Engines &amp; Netiquette: Students should know what search engines are and\u00a0how to use the search engines. Usage of search engines like Google, Yahoo, ask.com and\u00a0others should be demonstrated by student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 8:<\/strong> Cyber Hygiene: Students should learn about viruses on the internet and install\u00a0antivirus software. Student should learn to customize the browsers to block pop ups, block\u00a0active x downloads to avoid viruses and\/or worms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 9<\/strong>: Develop home page: Student should learn to develop his\/her home page using\u00a0HTML consisting of his\/her photo, name, address and education details as a table and his\/her\u00a0skill set as a list.<br \/>\nProductivity tools: LaTeX and Word\u00a0Word Orientation: An overview of LaTeX and Microsoft (MS) office \/ equivalent (FOSS)\u00a0tool word should be learned: Importance of LaTeX and MS office \/ equivalent (FOSS) tool\u00a0Word as word Processors, Details of the three tasks and features that should be covered in<br \/>\neach, using LaTeX and word \u2013 Accessing, overview of toolbars, saving files, Using help and\u00a0resources, rulers, format painter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problem 10:<\/strong> Using LaTeX and Word to create project certificate.
