II Year II Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: ME404ES BS 2\/0\/0\/4<br \/>\nPre-requisites: Engineering graphics<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course objectives:<\/strong> To familiarize with the standard conventions for different materials and\u00a0machine parts in working drawings. To make part drawings including sectional views\u00a0for various machine elements. To prepare assembly drawings given the details of part\u00a0drawings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preparation of engineering and working drawings with dimensions and bill of material\u00a0during design and development. Developing assembly drawings using part drawings\u00a0of machine components.<\/li>\n<li>Conventional representation of materials, common machine elements and parts such\u00a0as screws, nuts, bolts, keys, gears, webs, ribs.<\/li>\n<li>Types of sections \u2013 selection of section planes and drawing of sections and auxiliary\u00a0sectional views. Parts not usually sectioned.<\/li>\n<li>Methods of dimensioning, general rules for sizes and placement of dimensions for\u00a0holes, centers, curved and tapered features.<\/li>\n<li>Title boxes, their size, location and details &#8211; common abbreviations and their liberal\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">usage<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Types of Drawings \u2013 working drawings for machine parts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> Drawing of Machine Elements and simple parts<\/strong><br \/>\nSelection of Views, additional views for the following machine elements and parts with every\u00a0drawing proportion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Popular forms of Screw threads, bolts, nuts, stud bolts, tap bolts, set screws.<\/li>\n<li>Keys, cottered joints and knuckle joint.<\/li>\n<li>Rivetted joints for plates<\/li>\n<li>Shaft coupling, spigot and socket pipe joint.<\/li>\n<li>Journal, pivot and collar and foot step bearings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Assembly Drawings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drawings of assembled views for the part drawings of the following using conventions and\u00a0easy drawing proportions.<\/li>\n<li>Steam engine parts \u2013 stuffing boxes, cross heads, Eccentrics.<\/li>\n<li>Machine tool parts: Tail stock, Tool Post, Machine Vices.<\/li>\n<li>Other machine parts &#8211; Screws jacks, Petrol engine connecting rod, Plummer block<\/li>\n<li>Simple designs of steam stop valve, spring loaded safety valve, feed check valve and\u00a0air cock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: First angle projection to be adopted.
