II Year II Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: ME403ES \u00a0BS\u00a04\/1\/0\/4<br \/>\nPre-requisite: Nil<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-I Fluid statics:<\/strong><br \/>\nDimensions and units: physical properties of fluids- specific gravity, viscosity, surface tension \u2013 vapour pressure and their influence on fluid motion- atmospheric, gauge and vacuum pressures \u2013 measurement of pressure- Piezometer, U-tube and differential manometers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-II Fluid kinematics:<\/strong><br \/>\nStream line, path line and streak lines and stream tube, classification of flows-steady &amp; unsteady, uniform &amp; non uniform, laminar &amp; turbulent, rotational &amp; irrotational flows-equation of continuity for one dimensional flow and three dimensional flows. Fluid dynamics: Surface and body forces \u2013Euler\u2019s and Bernoulli\u2019s equations for flow along a stream line, momentum equation and its application on force on pipe bend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-III Boundary Layer Concepts:<\/strong><br \/>\nDefinition, thicknesses, characteristics along thin plate, laminar and turbulent boundary layers (No derivation) boundary layer in transition, separation of boundary layer, submerged objects \u2013 drag and lift. Closed conduit flow: Reynold\u2019s experiment- Darcy Weisbach equation \u2013 Minor losses in pipes- pipes in series and pipes in parallel \u2013 total energy line-hydraulic gradient line.
