II Year II Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: ME403ES \u00a0BS\u00a04\/1\/0\/4<br \/>\nPre-requisite: Kinematics of machines<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong> The objective is to introduce some of the components mainly used in IC\u00a0Engines and make analysis of various forces involved. Subjects deals with topics like inertia\u00a0forces in slider crank mechanism; IC Engine components &amp; the analysis like governors is\u00a0introduced. It also deals with balancing of rotating &amp; reciprocating parts. Studies are made\u00a0about balancing of multi cylinder engines, Radial engines etc. study of primary &amp; secondary\u00a0forces are considered while balancing. Finally they are introduced to the topic of vibrations.\u00a0The study deals with linear, longitudinal, &amp; torsional vibrations. The idea is to introduce the\u00a0concept of natural frequency and the importance of resonance and critical speeds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Outcome<\/strong>: the study of KOM&amp; DOM are necessary to have an idea while designing\u00a0the various machine members like shafts, bearings, gears, belts &amp; chains and various I.C.\u00a0Engine Components &amp; Machine tool parts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 I\u00a0Precession:<\/strong> Gyroscopes \u2013 effect of precession \u2013 motion on the stability of moving vehicles<br \/>\nsuch as motorcycle \u2013 motorcar \u2013 aeroplanes and ships.\u00a0Static and Dynamic Force Analysis: Static force analysis of planar mechanisms \u2013\u00a0Analytical Method \u2013 Dynamic Force Analysis \u2013 D\u2019Alembert\u2019s principle, Dynamic Analysis\u00a0of 4-link mechanism, Slider Crank Mechanism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II\u00a0Turning Moment Diagram And Flywheels:<\/strong> Engine Force Analysis \u2013 Piston Effort, Crank\u00a0Effort, etc., Inertia Force in Reciprocating Engine \u2013 Graphical Method &#8211; Turning moment<br \/>\ndiagram \u2013fluctuation of energy \u2013 flywheels and their design &#8211; Inertia of connecting rodinertia\u00a0force in reciprocating engines \u2013 crank effort and torque diagrams.-.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 III\u00a0Friction<\/strong>: pivots and collars \u2013 uniform pressure, uniform wear \u2013 friction circle and friction<br \/>\naxis: lubricated surfaces \u2013 boundary friction \u2013 film lubrication. Clutches \u2013 Types \u2013 Single\u00a0plate, multi-plate and cone clutches.\u00a0Brakes And Dynamometers: Types of brakes: Simple block brake, band and block brakeinternal\u00a0expanding shoe brake-effect of braking of a vehicle. Dynamometers \u2013 absorption and\u00a0transmission types.
