Interaction between dislocations, sessile dislocation,\u00a0glissile dislocation, dislocation climb, Jogs, Forces on dislocations Energy of a dislocation.\u00a0Frank Reed source, slip and twinning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II\u00a0<\/strong>Fracture: Elementary theories of fracture, Griffith\u2019s theory of brittle fracture, Ductile<br \/>\nFracture, Notch sensitivity.\u00a0Hardness Test: Methods of hardness testing Brinells, Vickers, Rockwell, Rockwell\u00a0superficial, Shore and Poldi methods, Microhardness test, relationship between hardness and\u00a0other mechanical properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III<\/strong>\u00a0Tension Test: Mechanism of elastic action, linear elastic properties. Engineering stress and<br \/>\nEngineering strain, True stress-strain curve. Tension Test and tensile properties, conditions\u00a0for necking, effect of temperature and strain rate on tensile properties.\u00a0Compression Test: Elastic and in elastic action in compression, compression Test.\u00a0Impact Test: Notched bar impact test and its significance, Charpy and Izod Tests,\u00a0significance of transition temperature curve, Metallurgical factors affecting the transition\u00a0temperature, temper embrittlement.
