II Year I Sem. \u00a0 \u00a0L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code: PE306ES 0\/0\/3\/2<br \/>\nPrerequisites: Basic knowledge of Geology<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The students should be in a position to<\/li>\n<li>read, understand and interpret the supplied maps<\/li>\n<li>understand the steps to be followed for completing any field job successfully<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong> The student will be in a position to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>read, understand and interpret different maps like Toposheet, Structural Geology maps, Stratigraphic maps, geological cross-sections, Isopach maps, Structural Contour maps etc.<\/li>\n<li>understand how to locate own \/ outcrop positions on Toposheet and how to take traverse<\/li>\n<li>understand geological formations and measure dip and strike reading correctly in the filed<\/li>\n<li>calculate true dip, true thickness, Oil Water Contact (OWC) from given maps<\/li>\n<li>explain different sediment depositional environments from stratigraphic columns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>List of Experiments: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Study of physical properties of minerals in hand specimen<\/li>\n<li>Study of common rocks with reference to their common structures, mineral composition and uses.<\/li>\n<li>Identification of minerals under microscopes<\/li>\n<li>Identification of rocks under microscopes<\/li>\n<li>Location of observed outcrops on the Toposheet.
