L T\/P\/D C<br \/>\nCourse Code: PH103BS 3 0\/0\/0 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To understand interaction of light with matter through interference, diffraction and polarization.<\/li>\n<li>To able to distinguish ordinary light with a laser light and to realize propagation of light through optical fibers.<\/li>\n<li>To understand various crystal systems and there structures elaborately. \uf0b7 To study various crystal imperfections and probing methods like X-RD.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course outcomes:<\/strong> after completion of this course the student is able to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Realize the importance of light phenomena in thin films and resolution.<\/li>\n<li>Learn principle, working of various laser systems and light propagation through optical fibers.<\/li>\n<li>Distinguish various crystal systems and understand atomic packing factor.<\/li>\n<li>Know the various defects in crystals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT-I<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Interference:<\/strong> Coherence, division of amplitude and division of wave front, interference in thin films (transmitted and reflected light), Newton\u2019s rings experiment.
