I Year II Sem.\r\n\r\nCourse Objectives:<\/strong> To impart knowledge about various finite element techniques and development of finite element code.\r\n\r\nCourse Outcome:<\/strong> The learner will be able to solve continuum problems using finite element analysis.\r\n\r\nUNIT – I : Introduction:<\/strong> Concepts of FEM – steps involved – merits and demerits – energy principles \u2013 Discretization – Raleigh – Ritz method of functional approximation. Principles of Elasticity: Stress equations – strain displacement relationships in matrix form plane stress, plane strain and axi-symmetric bodies of revolution with axi-symmetric loading.\r\n\r\nUNIT – II : One dimensional FEM:\u00a0<\/strong>Stiffness matrix for beam and bar elements – shape functions for 1-D elements. Two dimensional FEM: Different types of elements for plane stress and plane strain analysis – displacement models – generalized coordinates – shape functions – convergent and compatibility requirements – geometric invariance – natural coordinate system – area and volume coordinates – generation of element stiffness and nodal load matrices\r\n\r\nUNIT – III : Isoparametric formulation:<\/strong> Concept – different isoparametric elements for 2D analysis -formulation of 4-noded and 8-noded isoparametric quadrilateral elements – Lagrange elements – serendipity elements.
