I Year II Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong> To impart knowledge about various finite element techniques and development of finite element code.\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Outcome:<\/strong> The learner will be able to solve continuum problems using finite element analysis.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; I : Introduction:<\/strong> Concepts of FEM &#8211; steps involved &#8211; merits and demerits &#8211; energy principles \u2013 Discretization &#8211; Raleigh &#8211; Ritz method of functional approximation. Principles of Elasticity: Stress equations &#8211; strain displacement relationships in matrix form plane stress, plane strain and axi-symmetric bodies of revolution with axi-symmetric loading.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; II : One dimensional FEM:\u00a0<\/strong>Stiffness matrix for beam and bar elements &#8211; shape functions for 1-D elements. Two dimensional FEM: Different types of elements for plane stress and plane strain analysis &#8211; displacement models &#8211; generalized coordinates &#8211; shape functions &#8211; convergent and compatibility requirements &#8211; geometric invariance &#8211; natural coordinate system &#8211; area and volume coordinates &#8211; generation of element stiffness and nodal load matrices\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; III : Isoparametric formulation:<\/strong> Concept &#8211; different isoparametric elements for 2D analysis -formulation of 4-noded and 8-noded isoparametric quadrilateral elements &#8211; Lagrange elements &#8211; serendipity elements.
