I Year II Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; I:<\/strong> Introduction to FEM, basic concepts, historical back ground, applications of FEM, general description, comparison of FEM with other methods, variational approach, Glerkin\u2019s Methods. Co-ordinates, basic element shapes, interpolation function, Virtual energy principle, Rayleigh \u2013 Ritz method, properties of stiffness matrix, treatment of boundary conditions, solution of system of equations, shape functions and characteristics, Basic equations of elasticity, strain- displacement relations.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; II:<\/strong> 1-D Structural Problems: Axial bar element \u2013 stiffness matrix, load vector, temperature effects, Quadratic shape functions, and problems.
