Course Objectives:

Understand the importance of Production planning and control. Learning way of carrying out various functions so as to produce right product, right quantity at right time with minimum cost.

Course Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand production systems and their characteristics. Evaluate MRP and JIT systems against traditional inventory control systems. Understand basics of variability and its role in the performance of a production system. Analyze aggregate planning strategies. Apply forecasting and scheduling techniques to production systems. Understand theory of constraints for effective management of production systems.

Inventory management – Functions of inventories – relevant inventory costs – ABC analysis – VED analysis – Basic EOQ model- Inventory control systems -continuous review systems and periodic review systems, MRP I, MRP II, ERP, JIT Systems – Basic Treatment only.

Aggregate planning -Definition – aggregate-planning strategies – aggregate planning methods – transportation model.
