Prerequisites: Water Resources Engineering
Course Objectives:
- To understand different watershed behaviour
- To be able to interpret runoff data and quantify erosion by using various modelling methods.
- To understand land use classification and impact of land use changes on hydrological cycle parameters.
Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, the student will be able to
- Identify causes of soil erosion
- Plan and design soil conservation measures in a watershed
- Plan and design water harvesting and groundwater recharge structures
- Plan measures for reclamation of saline soils
UNIT – I: Introduction,- concept of watershed, need for watershed management, concept of sustainable development. Hydrology of small watersheds
UNIT – II: Principles of soil erosion- causes of soil erosion, types of soil erosion, estimation of soil erosion from small watersheds, Control of soil erosion, methods of soil conservation – structural and non-structural measures.
UNIT – III: Principles of water harvesting, methods of rainwater harvesting, design of rainwater harvesting structures.
