Unit 1. Introduction

Requirements of water for chemical processing of textiles-Difference between hard water and soft water -Difference between temporary hardness and Permanent hardness – Zeolite process of removing water hardness – mechanism of wetting textile material-functions of soaps and detergents in wet processing-Name some anionic, cationic and non ionic surface active agents-Draw the wet processing flow chart for cotton and define each process-Tabulate the sequence of chemical preparatory treatments for the textiles made by different types of fibres-sequence of wet processing for yarns, woven fabrics and knitted fabric-commonly used chemicals in wet processing of textiles along with chemical formulae and the process in which they are used- effect of PH on different textile fibres-some sequestering agents / chelating agents
