Course Outcome:

At the end of the course, student will have the ability to

  1. Describe the process of bale opening and mixing of cotton and recognise the respective machines
  2. Identify opening and cleaning machines and explain the process
  3. Demonstrate the functions of various ancillary equipment
  4. Identify the parts and explain the functions of carding machine
  5. Identify the parts and explain the functions of drawing and combing machine
  6. Outline the functions of various parts of simplex machine

Unit 1. Blow Room

Classify cotton fibres based on staple length, fineness, trash – Strength and uniformity – Define fibre quality Index – Varieties of cotton grown in different states of India – Various trash contents and contamination in cotton – objectives / functions of blow room – Sequence of Blow room process sections / machinery – Components of blow room machinery – General sequence of machines in blow room installation – Objects of blending – Working principle of Mixing hopper bale opener , Automatic bale opening machine -Multi mixer (MPM).

Unit 3. Ancillary Equipment in Blow Room

Ancillary equipments in blow room – gravity traps and metal extractors – types of fire protection systems in blow room- working principle of Contamination sorter, De-dusting machine – types of Waste disposal systems in a blow room – Pneumatic transport system using Cylinder cages – working principle of Air separators- function and importance of two way distributer and bypass arrangement -regulation and control of material flow -method of transport of material by chute feed system
