Unit 1: Paper Manufacture and Chemistry of Pulp

Manufacture of virgin and non virgin paper-raw material used in pulp making – Ground wood or mechanical pulp -thermo mechanical pulp – Chemical pulp – The sulphate and sulphite processes for making chemical wood pulp -Other materials used in making the pulps – sizing materials – mineral fillers – colouring dyes and pigments -Bleaching system – Recycling of paper
