Course Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the student will have the ability to:

  1. CO1: Solve D.C. circuits and Choose proper measuring instruments depending on the purpose.
  2. CO2: Know the working and construction of D.C.Generators.
  3. CO3: Summarize the characteristics of a.c. waveforms, interpret and solve their effects in 1-phase and 3-phase circuits.
  4. CO4: Relate the concepts of Electromagnetism to explain the concepts of Induced E.M.F..
  5. CO5: Know the principle and construction of A.C. motors and alternators.
  6. CO6: Correlate the induced E.M.F. concepts to explain the construction and working of D.C.machines and A.C.machines.

Unit 1 DC circuits and Measuring instruments Duration: 10 periods

  1. Solutions of D.C. series, parallel circuits- Kirchoffs laws – Electrical Instruments- ammeter, voltmeter, Megger, multi meter and energy meter (single phase).

Unit 2 DC Generators Duration: 10 periods

D.C. motors- working & construction – types of motors – applications – back E.M.F, torque equation – 3point starter – speed control.

Unit 4 AC Circuits Duration: 10 periods

Single phase circuits – Sinusoidal E.M.F.- wave form – values of A.C. – phase and phase difference, power factor, equation for power – 3 phases E.M. F. – star and delta connected system – Balanced loads.
