Unit 1 Laundry Types and Equipment: Duration 10 Periods:
Laundry equipment -Classification – household washing machines-. factors to consider when purchasing a washing machine. Parts and functions of electric iron. Two types of steam iron. Laundry equipment in institutions and commercial laundries. Functioning of hydro extractors. Use of driers in institutional and commercial laundry the pressing equipment along with functions and uses

Unit 3 Stain Removal and Dry Cleaning: Duration:09 Periods
Stain – Classification of stains- identification. rules for stain removal. the chemicals and procedure to remove the following stains (fresh and dry) from white cotton fabric (tea, coffee, blood, egg, fruit and wine, oil, iodine,) (candle wax, iron rust, lipstick, urine, paint) Dry cleaningGrease absorbents & Grease solvents. the immersion method of dry cleaning. Spot cleaning with grease solvents. dry cleaning of clothes with application of grease absorbents. dry cleaning of clothes with application of paste made with grease solvent and grease absorbent. The fabrics/ clothes for which dry cleaning is recommended. dry cleaning of clothes by using grease solvents. dry-cleaning silk sari with stains in one place. dry-cleaning silk sari with stains all over (the sari).
Unit 4 Mending and Labelling: Duration:10 Periods
Fundamental rules for darning. Process of darning straight tear, diagonal tear, three-cornered tear. Darning a hole: plain weave hand darn, darned-in patch, machine darning. Mending of holes with patching (hemmed& printed patch) Systems of care labelling- Canadian care labelling system, British care labellingsystem. Draw and name the symbols used in care labels – the purpose of different symbols used for giving bleaching instructions, drying instruction – ironinginstruction, dry cleaning – locations of labels on the clothes. renovation/remodeling.
