Course Outcome:

After the completion of course the student is able to

  1. Use the basic principles of transduction.
  2. Classify and compare Temperature measuring instruments.
  3. Apply transducers to measure Pressure.
  4. Classify and compare flow measuring instruments.
  5. Apply the knowledge of various Transducers in the measurement of displacement and level.
  6. Apply transducers to measure force & torque.

Unit I: Measurement Systems.

Generalized Measurement System – Block Diagram-Functional description of measuring systems-Basic characteristics of a measuring system- Accuracy, Precision, Error, Linearity, Hysteresis, Resolution, Threshold, Repeatability, Reliability, Span-Transducer-DefinitionClassification-Basic requirements of a transducer-Electrical Transducer – Definition, Advantages-Variable Resistance Transducer -Variable Capacitance Transducer -Variable Inductance Transducer – Opto Electric Transducers.
