Course Objectives
Upon Completion of the Course the Student Shall be able To
- Use electrical wiring, Soldering and Identification of components and equipments.
- Study, Testing and use of different types of Electronic components and equipments.
Course Outcomes:
- Familiarisation of various tools used in electrical wiring.
- Identification of components
- Practice on Soldering.
- Study and use of electronic equipment
- Testing of electronic components and Devices.
- Connection of tube light with function of choke, tube and starter, ceiling fan, microphones and loudspeaker.
- Measurement of the value of resistor, AC/DC Voltages and currents using voltmeters and current Meters, using analog and digital Multimeters.
- Draw forward and reverse bias characteristics of semiconductor diode, Zener diode, transistor in CB mode and in CE mode.
1.0. Wiring Practice:
- Familiarisation of various tools used in electrical wiring.

- Identify the various functions of cutting pliers, Nose pliers, Pipe pliers, Flush cutter,top cutting pliers, Electronics pliers, Insulated cutting pliers
- Perform the following operations:
- Holding
- Wire cutting
- Component bending
- Twisting the wire.
- Identification of different wires and cables:
- Hookup wires a. PVC wire b. Teflon wires c.single strand d. multi strand.
- Wires used for electrical wiring:
- service wire
- TRS wires /PVC Wires (Al &Cu),
- single strand
- Multi strand
- twisted Flexible pair wires
- Enameled copper wire, Power cord.
- Cables: UTP cable , Co axial cables, Flat ribbon cable for antennas, Telephone cable, Ethernet cable, Ribbon cables, Optical fiber.
- Wire joints practice: Perform the following wire joint operations: Twisting, Splicing, Insulating, Western union joint, Married joint, Britania (straight Joint), Tee joint, Joining running cables, Pigtail or rat tail joint.
- Identifying the Electrical accessories:
- SPST Switch ,SPDT switch ,DPST switch,
- Two pin and Three pin Sockets and plugs,
- Power Socket and Power plugs, Lamp holders, Ceiling rose,
- Mains Switch, MCB, Kitkat Fuse – Fuse wire ratings.
- Usage of Fuse and variac
- Identifying the mains supply Phase ,Neutral ,Ground:
- Identification of Phase and Neutral, Terminals in mains supply,
- Explainthe purpose of earthing, 2pin and 3pin Plug Connections.
- Make simple switch connections using low voltage transformer
- Connecting a 6V lamp to a switch (toggle).
- 2 way switch connections.
- Series and parallel connection of lamps.
- Simple staircase wiring – one lamp control with two switches.
- Connection of tube light with function of choke, tube and starter.
- Connection of ceiling fan and reversing the direction of ceiling fan.
2.0 Identification of Components:
- Identify different types resistors with different wattage.
- Identify different types of Inductors.
- Identify colour coding of different resistors.
- Find the value of a given Resistor using colour code.
- Identify different types of switches and relays.
- Identify microphones and loudspeaker connections.
3.0 Soldering
- 1 Familiarisation of various soldering tools, Components & different cables.
- 2 Assemble and disassemble components using soldering irons
- 3 Use different types of soldering irons.
- 4 Use solder squeezer on electronic PCBs.
- 5 Use instant soldering gun.
- 6 Solder on printed circuit boards using passive and active components.
4.0 Study and Use of Electronic Equipment:
- Usethe symbols of electronic circuit components by drawing.
- Measurement of AC/DC Voltages and currents using voltmeters and currentMeters.
- Measurement of voltage, current and resistance using analog and digitalMultimeters.
- Perform the continuity test for different components and devices using analog and Digitalmultimeters.
- Study and use of AF / RF signal generators.
- Study and use of C.R.O. (single trace & Dual trace) for measuring frequency and amplitude.
- Study and use of single channel and dual channel regulated power supply units.
5.0 Testing of Electronic Components, Devices and Rectifiers:
- Measure the value of resistor using ohmmeter / multimeter and compare with the colour code value.
- Test and measure the value of capacitor using R.L.C. meter and compare with the marked / colour code value.
- Test the given loud speaker and measure the voice coil resistance-using multimeter.
- Test the working of different types of switches, relays.
- Arrange the Public Address system and test the performance.
- Identify leads and testing of different diodes (PN Junction Diode, Zener Diode) and transistors using Multimeter.
- Study of data manuals/ application manuals for diodes and transistors.
- Draw forward and reverse bias characteristics of semiconductor diode and calculate forward and reverse resistance of diode.
- Draw reverse bias characteristics of Zener diode and find out the zener voltage.
- Draw input and output characteristics of transistor in CB mode.
- Draw input and output characteristics of transistor in CE mode.
- Implement Half wave rectifier with and without filter.
- Implement Full wave rectifier with and without filter.
- Implement Bridge rectifier with and without filter.
