This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Mechanics of Fluids B.Tech (R13) thirdsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To understand the basic properties of the fluid, fluid kinematics, fluid dynamics and to\u00a0analyse and appreciate the complexities involved in solving the fluid flow problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : FLUID PROPERTIES AND FLUID STATICS<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 [9 hours]<br \/>\nFluid \u2013 definition, distinction between solid and fluid &#8211; Units and dimensions &#8211; Properties of fluids &#8211;\u00a0density, specific weight, specific volume, specific gravity, temperature, viscosity, compressibility,\u00a0vapour pressure, capillarity and surface tension &#8211; Fluid statics: concept of fluid static pressure,\u00a0absolute and gauge pressures &#8211; pressure measurements by manometers and pressure gaugesforces\u00a0on planes \u2013 centre of pressure \u2013 bouncy and floatation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : FLIUD KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nFluid Kinematics &#8211; Flow visualization &#8211; lines of flow &#8211; types of flow &#8211; velocity field and acceleration &#8211;\u00a0continuity equation (one and three dimensional differential forms)- Equation of streamline &#8211; stream\u00a0function &#8211; velocity potential function &#8211; circulation &#8211; flow net. Fluid dynamics &#8211; equations of motion &#8211;\u00a0Euler&#8217;s equation along a streamline &#8211; Bernoulli&#8217;s equation \u2013 applications &#8211; Venturi meter, Orifice\u00a0meter and Pitot tube.
