Biogas technology: Feedstock for producing biogas; Microbial and biochemical aspects and operating parameters for biogas production, Kinetics and mechanism. Dry and wet fermentation, Digestors for rural application-High rate digesters for industrial waste water treatment.\n<\/p>\n

Unit III<\/h4>\n

Pyrolysis and thermo-chemical conversion: Thermo-chemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass. Incineration for safe disposal of hazardous waste, Biomass processing for liquid fuel production, Pyrolysis of biomass-pyrolysis regime, effect of particle size, temperature, and products obtained.\n<\/p>\n

Unit V<\/h4>\n

Combustion of biomass and cogeneration systems: Combustion of woody biomass-theory, calculations and design of equipment, Cogeneration in biomass processing industries. Case studies: Combustion of rice husk, Use of bagasse for cogeneration.\n<\/p>\n

Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n

On completion of the course, the students will be able to<\/p>\n

  1. understand the fundamental knowledge on classification, characterization and sources of biomass<\/li>\n
  2. learn the production of biogas<\/li>\n
  3. gather knowledge on the operations of incineration, pyrolysis.<\/li>\n
  4. understand the process in gasification of biomass<\/li>\n
  5. knowledge on the types of combustion of biomass.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
