PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY OF FIRE\t9<\/strong>
\nFire properties of solid. liquid and gases – fire spread – toxicity of products of combustion – theory of combustion and explosion – vapour clouds – flash fire – jet fires – pool fires – unconfined vapour cloud explosion. shock waves – auto-ignition – boiling liquid expanding vapour explosion – case studies – Flixborough. Mexico disaster. Pasedena Texas. Piper Alpha. Peterborough and Bombay Victoria dock ship explosions.\n<\/p>\n

Unit II<\/h4>\n

EVACUATION SYSTEM AND CONTROL\t9<\/strong>
\nProcess of emergency evacuation – special features of personnel movement. Parameter characteristics of the movement of people-practical methods of designing evacuation passages and exists. Evacuation exits and routes – stages of evacuation; Exit Requirements- Planning of evacuation routes and exits – Seating arrangement – Passages and corridors; Smoke control during building design.\n<\/p>\n

Unit IV<\/h4>\n

FIRE EXITS MANAGEMENT\t9<\/strong>
\nGeneral exit requirements as per NBC; Internal staircases; Pressurisation of stair staircases; horizontal exits; fire tower; ramps; fire lifts; external fire escape ladders; Planning of location and calculation of capacity, number and width of exit as per NBC for different occupancy classification.\n<\/p>\n

Unit V<\/h4>\n

FIRE PROTECTINGEQUIPMENTS AND SYSTEMS\t9<\/strong>
\nSelection and distribution of portable extinguishers (for class A and B fires) and other fire rotectionequipments and systems for different occupancy classification as per NBC; Planning of fixed fire fighting installation for different occupancy classification- sprinkler system; total flooding system; CO2 system; foam system; Fire training and education- Arson – Fire safety audits – Risk assessment.\n<\/p>\n

Students able to:<\/p>\n

  1. Understand the basic theory of fire chemistry, the development of fire and its characteristics, and about different types of fire.<\/li>\n
  2. Describe and determine the effect of the product of combustion and their characteristics.<\/li>\n
  3. Develop and analyse operation and maintenance requirements of equipment, vehicles and accessories used in fire services.<\/li>\n
  4. Understand the fundamentals of fire hydraulics and fire ground operations.<\/li>\n
  5. Suppression and mitigation and fire safety engineering which focuses on human behavior and maintaining a tenable environment for evacuation from a fire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
