Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n

  1. To understand the practical aspects of the various unit operations employed in chemical industry.<\/li>\n
  2. To Know the Heat transfer principles in chemical industry.<\/li>\n
  3. To verify the various techniques and chemical processes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    List of Experiments:<\/h4>\n

    1. Sieve Analysis – To analyse a given sample using a set of standard sieves and thus to determine the specific surface area, the volume surface mean diameter and the mass mean diameter by differential analysis and cumulativeanalysis.<\/li>\n
    2. Verification of the laws of crushing in a Ball mill and calculation of criticalspeed.<\/li>\n
    3. Study of the working of Plate and frame filterpress.<\/li>\n
    4. Free settling – To find out the drag coefficient of a falling sphere in a Fluid and verification of Stoke’slaw.<\/li>\n
    5. Sedimentation – To study batch sedimentation of slurry and to determine the area of the continuous thickener.<\/li>\n
    6. Heat transfer from steam to air – Determination of overall heat transfercoefficient.<\/li>\n
    7. Verification of material balance equation and Rayleigh’s equation for simpledistillation.<\/li>\n
    8. Steamdistillation.<\/li>\n
    9. Leaching – leaching a mixture of salt andsand.<\/li>\n
    10. Study of the kinetics of chemical reaction in a batchreactor.<\/li>\n
    11. Adsorptionisotherms.<\/li>\n
    12. Frequency response of first and second ordersystems.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
