SELECTION OF ROCKET PROPULSION SYSTEMS\tAscent flight mechanics – Launch vehicle selection process – Criteria for Selection for different missions – selection of subsystems – types of staging – Interfaces – selection and criteria for stages and their role in launch vehicle configuration design.\n<\/p>\n

NOSE CONE CONFIGURATION\tAerodynamic aspects on the selection of nose shape of a launch vehicle – design factors in the finalization of nose configuration with respect to payload – nose cone thermal protection system -separation of fairings – payload injection mechanism\n<\/p>\n

Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to<\/p>\n

  1. Explain exotic space propulsion concepts, such as nuclear, solar sail, and antimatter.<\/li>\n
  2. Apply knowledge in selecting the appropriate rocket propulsion systems.<\/li>\n
  3. interpret the air-breathing propulsion suitable for initial stages and fly-back boosters.<\/li>\n
  4. Analyze aerodynamics aspect, including boost-phase lift and drag, hypersonic, and re-entry.<\/li>\n
  5. Adapt from aircraft engineers moving into launch vehicle, spacecraft, and hypersonic vehicle design.<\/li>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
