The detailed syllabus of pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory is as follows. <\/p>\n<p>  <title>Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory<\/title><\/p>\n<h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To provide students with the practical laboratory skills of pharmaceutical chemistry<\/li>\n<li>To demonstrate the effect of the different synthetic methodology.<\/li>\n<li>To clarify theoretical concepts of chemical synthesis of drug molecules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>List of Experiments:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>To determine the strength of a given unknown solution of HCl by titrating it against with the help of a known solution of NaOH using phenolphthalein indicator.<\/li>\n<li>To determine the strength of a given unknown solution of NaOH by titrating it against with the help of a known solution of HCl using methyl orange indicator.<\/li>\n<li>To prepare and standardize 200 ml of 0.1 M silver nitrate solution.<\/li>\n<li>Determination of physical constants: melting point, boiling point, viscosity and pKa.<\/li>\n<li>Determination of partition coefficient of any medicinal compound by shake flask method.<\/li>\n<li>Preparation and identification tests of the following official (IP) compounds: Magnesium sulphate, Calcium Carbonate, Ferrous sulphate, Boric acid<\/li>\n<li>Determination of impurities by limit test<\/li>\n<li>Synthesis of compounds by hydrolysis reaction: Salicylic acid from Alkyl Benzoate.<\/li>\n<li>Synthesis of compounds by oxidation reaction: Benzoic acid from Benzyl chloride.<\/li>\n<li>Synthesis of compounds involving Electrophilic substitution reaction:<br \/>\n      Benzoylation: Benzanilide, Phenyl benzoate, 2-Naphthyl benzoate<br \/>\n      Acetylation: Aspirin<br \/>\n      Nitration: Picric acid, p-nitro aniline, m &#8211; dinitro benzene<br \/>\n      Halogenaion: p-bromo acetanilide<br \/>\n      Haloform: Iodoform\n    <\/li>\n<li>Synthesis of compounds by naming reaction: 7- hydroxy -4- methyl coumarin (Pechmann reaction), 1- phenyl azo-2-napthol (Diazotization and Coupling reaction)<\/li>\n<li>Synthesis of major industrial compounds: Paracetamol from p-aminophenol, Benzocaine from p-nitro benzoic acid<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>List of Equipments:<\/h4>\n<p>  REQUIRED FOR 30 STUDENTS<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Vacuum filtrationunit<\/li>\n<li>Refluxcondenser<\/li>\n<li>Hotair oven<\/li>\n<li>Waterbath<\/li>\n<li>Distillationunit<\/li>\n<li>Melting point apparatus<\/li>\n<li>pH meter<\/li>\n<li>Electronic Weighing balance<\/li>\n<li>Heating Mantle<\/li>\n<li>Vacuum dryer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>  The students will be able to<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply safe laboratory practices in the preparation of reagents, handling and storage of chemicals.<\/li>\n<li>Identify\/confirm the unknown organic compounds by melting point determination, pKa, boiling point, Viscosity etc.<\/li>\n<li>Carry out quality control tests for fine chemicals and bulk drugs.<\/li>\n<li>Implement the knowledge of chemistry in designing the synthetic scheme of organic compounds.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate feasible synthesis of some important class of drugs using chemical reactions.<\/li>\n<li>Develop the reaction mechanism and orientation of chemical bonds in the synthesis of major industrial compounds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Reference Books:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>K.Yogananda Reddy, Dr.K.N.
