The detailed syllabus of geology laboratory &#8211; i is as follows. <\/p>\n<p>  <title>Geology Laboratory &#8211; I<\/title><\/p>\n<h4>Course Objective:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<ul>\n<li>To familiarize the students with practical techniques of geological mapping and field work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Unit I<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n  <strong>Identification of Minerals<\/strong><br \/>\n  Identification and study of physical properties of quartz, feldspars, mica and their varieties, of talc, hornblende, augite, diopside, hypersthene, calcite, fluorite, topaz, tourmaline, corundum, gypsum, kyanite, and silimanite,. Study of minerals in Moh&#8221;s scale of hardness.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Unit II<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n  <strong>Identification of Rocks<\/strong><br \/>\n  Identification and description of igneous rocks &#8211; plutonic, hypabyssal and volcanic: granite, syenite, dolerite, basalt, gabbro and dunite &#8211; Sedimentary rocks: conglomerate, breccia, sandstone, limestone and shale &#8211; Metamorphic rocks: slate, phyllite, quartzite, marble, charnockite, gneiss and schist.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Unit III<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n  <strong>Structural Geology Problems<\/strong><br \/>\n  Strike dip and calculations &#8211; Exercises on structural maps of geological site and interpretation of geological conditions &#8211; 3 point and 4 point borehole problems to decipher the subsurface geological conditions for mining of resources &#8211; Determination of stratal thickness &#8211; true width calculations from borehole data. .\n<\/p>\n<h4>Unit IV<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n  <strong>Geological Mapping Techniques<\/strong><br \/>\n  Measurements using Brunton compass and Clinometer &#8211; Toposheets and their uses &#8211; Map scale and types, calculations &#8211; preparation and interpretation of contour maps and drainage maps &#8211; symbols in geological maps &#8211; representation of geological features.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Unit V<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n  <strong>Geological Field Work<\/strong><br \/>\n  Measurement of Strike and Dip in the field using Brunton Compass and Clinometer.
