This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Organic Chemistry Laboratory B.Tech 2016-2017 (R13) thirdsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVE:<\/strong><br \/>\nTo learn basic principles involved in analysis and synthesis of different organic<br \/>\nderivatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LIST OF EXPERIMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quantitative analysis of organic compounds \u2013 Identification of aliphatic\/aromatic, saturated\/unsaturated compounds.<\/li>\n<li>Identification and characterization of various functional groups by their characteristic reactions:<br \/>\na) alcohol, b) aldehyde, c) ketone, d) carboxylic acid, e) phenol, f) ester, g) primary, secondary and tertiary amines h) imide i) nitro compounds.<\/li>\n<li>Analysis of an unknown organic compound and preparation of suitable<br \/>\nsolid derivatives.<\/li>\n<li>Analysis of carbohydrates.<\/li>\n<li>Analysis of proteins.<\/li>\n<li>Methodology of filtration and recrystallization.<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to organic synthetic procedures:<br \/>\ni. Acetylation \u2013 Preparation of acetanilide from aniline. ii. Hydrolysis \u2013 Preparation of salycilic acid from methyl salyciliate. iii. Substitution \u2013 Conversion of acetone to iodoform. iv. Nitration \u2013 Preparation of m-dinitrobenzene from nitrobenzene. v. Oxidation \u2013 Preparation of benzoic acid from benzaldehyde\/ benzyl alcohol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>TOTAL : 45 PERIODS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>OUTCOME:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The student is able to identify what distinguishes a strong and weak nucleophile and recall the rules of reactions. The student shows their mastery of nomenclature since ethyl bromide is not drawn out.
