This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Mechanics of Solids B.Tech (R13) thirdsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>To impart knowledge to the students about the Strength of Materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : CONCEPT OF STRESS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0[8+3 hours]<br \/>\nConcept of stress- tensile and compressive stresses- shear stress- Elastic limit \u2013 Hooke\u2019s law- elastic constants and their relationship \u2013 Poisson\u2019s ratio \u2013 Generalized Hooke\u2019s law \u2013 elongation of simple and composite bars under external load \u2013 allowable stress \u2013 factor of safety- thermal stresses of simple members \u2013 strength of welded joints. resilience-suddenly applied loads, strain gauges. hydrostatic stress &amp; corresponding strains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II: STRESSES IN BEAMS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 [9+3 hours]<br \/>\nStresses in beams \u2013 neutral axis- theory of simple bending- bending stresses in rectangular, I- sections and circular section beams. bending stresses in composite section beams. strain energy due to bending. shear stresses in beams \u2013 rectangular, I-sections and circular sections. stress components on a general plane and oblique plane \u2013 principal stresses and principal Planes, Maximum shear stresses and their planes- Mohr\u2019s Diagram for stress &amp; strain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : BENDING MOMENT<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0[10+3 hours]<br \/>\nBending moment-shear force, BMD and SFD for statically determinate beams cantilever simply supported\u2013overhanging beams- with or without applied moments, point of contra flexure.
