The detailed syllabus of soil mechanics laboratory is as follows. <\/p>\n<p>  <title>Soil Mechanics Laboratory<\/title><\/p>\n<h4>Course Objective:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<ul>\n<li>To develop skills to test the soils for their index and engineering properties and to characterize the soil based on their properties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Exercises:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p><i>1. Determination of Index Properties 20<\/i>\n  <\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Specific gravity of soil solids<\/li>\n<li>Grain size distribution &#8211; Sieve analysis<\/li>\n<li>Grain size distribution &#8211; Hydrometer analysis<\/li>\n<li>Liquid limit and Plastic limit tests<\/li>\n<li>Shrinkage limit and Differential free swell tests<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>2. Determination of Insitu Density and Compaction Characteristics 8<\/i>\n  <\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Field density Test ( Sand replacement method)<\/li>\n<li>Determination of moisture &#8211; density relationship using standard proctor compaction test.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>3. Determination of Engineering Properties 28<\/i>\n  <\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Permeability determination (constant head and falling head methods)<\/li>\n<li>One dimensional consolidation test (Determination of co-efficient of consolidation only)<\/li>\n<li>Direct shear test in cohesionless soil<\/li>\n<li>Unconfined compression test in cohesive soil<\/li>\n<li>Laboratory vane shear test in cohesive soil<\/li>\n<li>Tri-axial compression test in cohesionless soil (Demonstration only)<\/li>\n<li>California Bearing Ratio Test<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>  <i>4.
