Strength of Materials Laboratory<\/title><\/p>\n<h4>Course Objective:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<ul>\n<li>To impart knowledge and skill relevant to the mechanical properties of materials subjected to different types of loading on wood and steel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>List of Experiments:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<ol>\n<li>Compression test on wood<\/li>\n<li>Double shear test on metal<\/li>\n<li>Torsion test on mild steel rod<\/li>\n<li>Impact test on metal specimen (Izod and Charpy)<\/li>\n<li>Hardness test on metals (Rockwell and Brinell Hardness Tests)<\/li>\n<li>Deflection test on metal beam<\/li>\n<li>Compression test on helical spring<\/li>\n<li>Deflection test on carriage spring<\/li>\n<li>Tension test on mild steel rod<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Course Outcome:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply the knowledge of testing steel rod subjected to tension and torsion.<\/li>\n<li>Explain the hardness of different metals.<\/li>\n<li>Exert the knowledge about the testing of helical spring and carriage spring.<\/li>\n<li>Acquire the knowledge about double shear test on metal and impact test on metal.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain the practical knowledge about the deflection of the beam.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>References:<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<ol>\n<li>Strength of Materials Laboratory Manual, Anna University, Chennai-600 025.<\/li>\n<li>IS 432(Part I ) -1992 – Specification for mild steel and medium tensile steel bars and hard drawn steel wire for concrete reinforcement<\/li>\n<li>Rajput.R.K.
