OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n To understand the principles of design such the manufacturing of the product is possible.<\/p>\n Various design aspects to be considered for manufacturing the products using different processes.<\/p>\n UNIT I : DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING APPROACH AND PROCESS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 [9 Hours] UNIT II : GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 [9 Hours] UNIT III : \u00a0FORM DESIGN OF CASTINGS AND WELDMENTS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 [9 Hours]
\nMethodologies and tools, design axioms, design for assembly and evaluation, minimum part assessment. Taguchi method, robustness assessment, manufacturing process rules, designer’s tool kit, Computer Aided group Technology, failure mode effective analysis, Value Analysis. Design for minimum number of parts, development of modular design, minimizing part variations, design of parts to be multi-functional, multi-use, ease of fabrication, Poka Yoke principles.<\/p>\n
\nSurface finish, review of relationship between attainable tolerance grades and difference machining processes. Analysis of tapers, screw threads, applying probability to tolerances.<\/p>\n
\nRedesign of castings based on parting line considerations, minimising core requirements, redesigning cast members using weldments, use of welding symbols.<\/p>\n
