This course should enable students to use standard packages for modeling and simulation applicable to Materials Science and Engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : INTRODUCTION TO MODELING AND MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0[9 Hours]<br \/>\nMathematical modeling, physical simulation, advantages and limitations &#8211; Review of differential equations, numerical methods, introduction to FEM, FDM- Governing differential equations of elastic, plastic deformation, fluid flow and heat transfer \u2013 basic steps in FEM<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : CONSTITUTIVE EQUATIONS IN FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0[9 Hours]<br \/>\nThermoelectric and electromagnetic properties of solids, Constitutive equations in electromagnetism, Maxwell\u2019s equation \u2013 microscopic and macroscopic approach, Constitutive equations for thermoelectric materials, Thermo-elastic conductors, Magnetizable conductors and Super conductivity<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : CONSTITUTIVE EQUATIONS IN STRUCTURAL MATERIALS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0[9 Hours]<br \/>\nBasic concepts from continuum mechanics, Stress tensor, Strain tensor, Strain rate tensor, Equation in conductivity and motion. Constitutive equations for ideal elastic material: Gauchy\u2019s method and Grees\u2019s Method.
