OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n To impart the knowledge about the principles of industrial lasers such as laser generation, mode selection, beam mechanisms, modifications and characteristics, types of lasers etc. Also to introduce the concepts of laser processing of materials which includes background of laser systems, process parameters, material considerations and specific applications.<\/p>\n UNIT I : PRINCIPLES OF INDUSTRIAL LASERS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 [9 Hours] UNIT II : THERMAL PROCESS- HEAT AND FLUID FLOW \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0[9 Hours] UNIT III : LASER METALLURGY<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0[9 Hours]
\nPrinciple of laser generation, optical resonators, laser modes- mode selection, line- broadening mechanisms, laser beam modifications and types of industrials lasers.<\/p>\n
\nHeat flow in the work piece: thick plate with point heat source, thin plate with line heat source, peak temperature and cooling rates Fluid flow in molten pool: continuity equation, navier-stokes equation and surface tension effects.<\/p>\n
\nProcess microstructure- fusion zone, zone of partial melting, haz, discontinuities- porosity, cracking, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration and undercut.<\/p>\n
