This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Mechanical Behaviour of Materials B.Tech (R13) fourthsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The students having studied the basics of material structures and properties and strength of materials, shall be introduced to dislocation theories of plasticity behaviour, various strengthening mechanisms and fracture mechanics. It will expose students to failure mechanisms due to fatigue and creep as well as their testing methods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : ELASTIC AND PLASTIC BEHAVIOUR<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 [10 Hours]<br \/>\nElastic behavior of materials &#8211; Hooke&#8217;s law, plastic behaviour: dislocation theory &#8211; Burger\u2019s vectors and dislocation loops, dislocations in the FCC, HCP and BCC lattice, stress fields and energies of dislocations, forces on and between dislocations, dislocation climb, intersections of dislocations, Jogs, dislocation sources, multiplication of dislocations, dislocation pile-ups, Slip and twinning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II: STRENGTHENING MECHANISMS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 [10 Hours]<br \/>\ncold working, grain size strengthening. Solid solution strengthening. martensitic strengthening, precipitation strengthening, dispersion strengthening, fibre strengthening, examples of above strengthening mechanisms from ferrous and non-ferrous systems, simple problems. Yield point phenomenon, strain aging and dynamic strain aging<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : FRACTURE AND FRACTURE MECHANICS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 [9 Hours]<br \/>\nTypes of fracture, basic mechanism of ductile and brittle fracture, Griffith\u2019s \u00a0theory of brittle fracture, Orowan\u2019s modification. Izod and Charpy Impacts tests, Ductile to Brittle Transition Temperature (DBTT), Factors affecting DBTT, determination of DBTT.
