This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Basic Machining Process B.Tech 2016-2017 (R13) thirdsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>To impart the knowledge on basic concepts of various machining processes and machine tools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : LATHE \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nIntroduction to production processes \u2013 types of production (job, batch and mass) \u2013 production processes \u2013 Casting, Forming, Machining and Welding, Machine and Machine Tool \u2013 Lathe \u2013 Engine Lathe \u2013 block diagram \u2013 sketch \u2013 functions of each part \u2013 work holding devices in lathe \u2013 functions \u2013 Chuck, Centre, Dogs, Steady Rest and Follower Rest, mechanism of lathe \u2013 Apron, Feed, Tumbler Gear, various operations performed in Lathe \u2013 facing, turning, chamfering and knurling \u2013 relative positions of tool and job \u2013 Taper turning operations (three methods_ thread cutting \u2013 thread \u2013 RH and LH, single start and multi start with application \u2013 Method of thread cutting \u2013 selection and arrangement of tool and work. Problems in metric and inch thread conversion \u2013 Specifications of Lathe \u2013 Burnishing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : SHAPER, PLANER AND SLOTTER \u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nPurpose of shaping \u2013 block diagram \u2013 functions of each part. Purpose of planer \u2013 block diagram \u2013 functions of each part. Purpose of slotting machine \u2013 block diagram \u2013 functions and working principle. Operations carried out \u2013 horizontal plane, vertical plane, v type with relative position \u2013 Comparison of planer with shaper \u2013 work holding devices in shaper and planer \u2013 Quick return mechanism in shaper \u2013 mechanical and hydraulic \u2013 cross feed mechanism \u2013Types of planer with application \u2013 mechanism in planer \u2013 Comparison of shaping with slotting \u2013 tool holding devices in shaper, planer and slotter \u2013 specifications of shaper, planer and slotter simple problems to calculate the velocity \u2013 speed, feed and depth of cut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : DRILLING<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nPurpose of drilling \u2013 block diagrm and function \u2013 types of drilling machines \u2013 portable drilling \u2013 bench type \u2013 sensitive drilling \u2013 radial arm drilling \u2013 functions of parts \u2013 purpose and operation \u2013 gang milling, multiple drill head, upright drilling, relative operations \u2013 reaming, boring, tapping, counter boring, courses sinking, trepanning and spot facing (with simple sketch, purpose and application).
