This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Marine Boilers and Steam Engineering B.Tech (R13) fifthsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To provide knowledge to the students about Marine Boilers and Steam Engines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : MARINE BOILERS &amp; BOILER MOUNTINGS \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nScotch Boiler, Cochran, Spanner, Clarkson thimble tube, Waste heat recovery calculation, Lamont exhaust gas boiler, Composite boilers, Water tube boilers \u2013 Babcock Wilcox, Foster Wheeler \u2013 Dtype, Double evaporation boilers. Safety Valves \u2013 Improved High Lift, Full lift and full Bore type: Gauge glass \u2013 Ordinary plate type and remote Indicator; Automatic feed regulator, three element High &amp; Low water level alarms, Main Steam stop valve, Retractable type Soot blower etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : OPERATION &amp; MAINTENANCE OF BOILERS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nPre-commissioning procedures, Hydraulic tests, steam raising and Operating procedures, Action in the event of shortage of water. Regular boiler water tests on board. Blowing down of boiler, Laying up a boiler; general maintenance, External and internal tube cleaning. Tube renewals, etc., maintenance, inspection and survey of boilers. Refractory: Purposes of refractory, types of refractory and reasons for failure. Oil burning: Procedure of Liquid fuel burning in open furnace, Various types of atomizer, Furnace arrangement for oil burning, Boiler Control System i.e. master control, fuel control, air control and viscosity control, Introduction to Automation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : MARINE STEAM PLANTS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nSteam engines &#8211; History of multiple expansion marine reciprocating engines &amp; steam turbines. Description of different types of steam turbines. Layout of plant -General layout of plant &amp; description of a modern geared steam turbine installation including auxiliaries in modern use, open and closed feed system.<br \/>\nCondensers &#8211; Types of condensers, constructional details, location &amp; working principles, contraction and expansion allowances, leak test.
