This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Marine Engineering Materials B.Tech (R13) fourthsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To impart knowledge on the properties, treatment, testing and applications of metals and non- metallic materials so as to identify and select suitable materials for various Marine Engineering applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : FUNDAMENTALS OF METALLURGY<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nBasic metallurgy, metals and processes, properties of materials and uses &#8211; Metallurgy of steel and cast iron &#8211; iron \u2013 Iron carbide equilibrium diagram. Classification of steel and cast Iron, microstructure &#8211; Aluminium, copper and its alloys &#8211; Non-metallic materials \u2013 polymers properties &#8211; applications of marine materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : HEAT TREATMENT \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nDefinition \u2013 Full annealing, stress relief, recrystallisation and spheroidizing \u2013 normalising, hardening and tempering of steel.
