This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Power Quality B.Tech (R13) seventhsem is as follows<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To introduce the power quality problem<\/li>\n<li>To educate on production of voltages sags, over voltages and harmonics and methods\u00a0of control.<\/li>\n<li>To study overvoltage problems<\/li>\n<li>To study the sources and effect of harmonics in power system<\/li>\n<li>To impart knowledge on various methods of power quality monitoring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : INTRODUCTION TO POWER QUALITY<\/strong> \u00a0 [9 hours]<br \/>\nTerms and definitions: Overloading &#8211; under voltage &#8211; over voltage. Concepts of transients &#8211; short\u00a0duration variations such as interruption &#8211; long duration variation such as sustained interruption. Sags\u00a0and swells &#8211; voltage sag &#8211; voltage swell &#8211; voltage imbalance &#8211; voltage fluctuation &#8211; power frequency\u00a0variations. International standards of power quality. Computer Business Equipment Manufacturers\u00a0Associations (CBEMA) curve.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : VOLTAGE SAGS AND INTERRUPTIONS<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nSources of sags and interruptions &#8211; estimating voltage sag performance. Thevenin\u2019s equivalent source\u00a0&#8211; analysis and calculation of various faulted condition. Voltage sag due to induction motor starting.\u00a0Estimation of the sag severity &#8211; mitigation of voltage sags, active series compensators. Static transfer\u00a0switches and fast transfer switches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : OVERVOLTAGES<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0[9 hours]<br \/>\nSources of over voltages &#8211; Capacitor switching \u2013 lightning &#8211; ferro resonance. Mitigation of voltage\u00a0swells &#8211; surge arresters &#8211; low pass filters &#8211; power conditioners. Lightning protection \u2013 shielding &#8211; line\u00a0arresters &#8211; protection of transformers and cables.
