Engineering Practices Laboratory

Course Objective:

• Drawing pipe line plan; laying and connecting various pipe fittings used in common household plumbing work; Sawing; planing; making joints in wood materials used in commonhousehold wood work. • Wiring various electrical joints in common household electrical wire work. • Welding various joints in steel plates using arc welding work; Machining various simple processes like turning, drilling, tapping in parts; Assembling simple mechanical assembly of common household equipments; Making a tray out of metal sheet using sheet metal work. • Soldering and testing simple electronic circuits; Assembling and testing simple electronic components on PCB. GROUP – A (CIVIL and ELECTRICAL) PARTI CIVIL ENGINEERING PRACTICES 15 PLUMBING WORK:

  1. Connecting various basic pipe fittings like valves, taps, coupling, unions, reducers,elbows and other components which are commonly used in household.
  2. Preparing plumbing line sketches.
  3. Laying pipe connection to the suction side of a pump
  4. Laying pipe connection to the delivery side of a pump.
  5. Connecting pipes of different materials: Metal, plastic and flexible pipes used inhousehold appliances.WOOD WORK:
  6. Sawing,
  7. Planing and
  8. Making joints like T-Joint, Mortise joint and Tenon joint and Dovetail joint.Wood Work Study:
  9. Studying joints in door panels and wooden furniture

  11. Introduction to switches, fuses, indicators and lamps – Basic switch board wiring with lamp, fan and three pin socket
  12. Staircase wiring
  13. Fluorescent Lamp wiring with introduction to CFL and LED types.
  14. Energy meter wiring and related calculations/ calibration
  15. Study of Iron Box wiring and assembly
  16. Study of Fan Regulator (Resistor type and Electronic type using Diac/Triac/quadrac)
  17. Study of emergency lamp wiring/Water heaterGROUP – B (MECHANICAL AND ELECTRONICS) PART III MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PRACTICES 15 WELDING WORK:
  18. Welding of Butt Joints, Lap Joints, and Tee Joints using arc welding.
  19. Practicing gas welding.BASIC MACHINING WORK:
  20. (simple)Turning.
  21. (simple)Drilling.
  22. (simple)Tapping.ASSEMBLY WORK:
  23. Assembling a centrifugal pump.
  24. Assembling a household mixer.
  25. Assembling an airconditioner.SHEETMETAL WORK:
  26. Making of a square trayFOUNDRY WORK:
  27. Demonstrating basic foundry operations.PART IV ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING PRACTICES 15 SOLDERING WORK:
  28. Soldering simple electronic circuits and checking continuity.ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY AND TESTING WORK:
  29. Assembling and testing electronic components on a small PCB.ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT STUDY:
  30. Study an elements of smart phone..

Course Outcome:

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to: CO1 : Draw pipe line plan; lay and connect various pipe fittings used in common household plumbing work; Saw; plan; make joints in wood materials used in common household wood work.
