It is an engineering stream related to management of Industrial process. The name Industrial engineering often confuses students and parents and lead to an imagination of a manufacturing industry. This is engineering stream is related to understanding, development and implementation of systems involving human being and other resources. In this course of study student will learn about the methods to manage and optimum utilization of resources available by applying mathematical and engineering tools.
During first year student will learn about basic engineering subjects like mathematics, physics chemistry and other engineering subjects. In later years they study about Product Design and Development, work systems, logistics, production planning and inventory control, Operation research, Quality Control and recently Intellectual property system.
Usually these courses are most effective at master of engineering (M.Tech) level. Industrial engineers are suitable for any industry, right from manufacturing to planning, consultancy to software, logistics to supply chain management. There is big opportunity for higher education in Industrial engineering in the field of supply chain management, Operation research, Inventory management and Intellectual properties rights.

sir i got 50 out of 100 in gate 2010 in ee branch i want to apply for iits for mtech in powersystems or power electronics

I have completed ,my non medical (physics, chemistry, math) and am planning to go for commerce -MBA in future but after doing engineering. So I think Industrial engineering and management will suit best to me as it would also relate my subjects with commercial world somehow! Else you guide which engineering field could relate and open the doors of commerce sector for me as well along with future in science also! I hope u get the point-Kindly do let me know quickly!
