Electrical Engineering: Prospects, Future and Institutes in India

Student after 12th talking about engineering subjects looking to Engineering subject and for electrical engineering and think that it’s a kind advanced work of an electrician, who come home to repair our electric fans and lights. But in reality its entirely different from that and you will be learning whole lot of Electrical engineering techniques and related stuff in this course.

During first year of engineering electrical engineering students learn about Common engineering courses like Engineering mathematics, Physics, Engineering Drawing and fundamentals of computing. From second year they will start learning about Thermodynamics, introductory electronics, signal processing and instrumentation, signals, systems and electric networks, microelectronics, control systems, communication systems, power systems, electromagnetic systems, electrical machines, and power generation techniques. By the end of final year students can be well equipped with the understanding of working and application of electric systems and engineering.

There are equally good opportunities for jobs in electrical engineering industry and higher education. There is lot of multidisciplinary research for developing electric vehicles with great funding and scope all over there world. On the same time good opportunities back home in industry.

Core companies offer electrical engineering jobs: ABB, Bajaj International Private Ltd., Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Centre for Electronics Design and Technology, Crompton Greaves Limited (CGL), Siemens Ltd., Reliance power Ltd., and Wipro Lighting are name to few.

Average salary: 5 to 7 lakh per annum

  20. the green hornet

No electrical engineering does not have good scope in india ,
    primary reasons are:-
1)if you want to join psu then it’s fine they need programmed robots who can do repetitive work in short if you think you don’t expect to see much in your carrier then it’s fine go for that boring job.Almost all psu are govt backed and does not require any specials skills(except clear an exam),there engineers and primitive when it comes to technology.
2)Private industry is doomed and the market of transformer and induction motor is taken by china , it’s in double digit negative growth
    3) No R&D in electrical engineering (there is some improvements in electronics though) ,govt organistation like drdo,….. who can’t even make SDR after spending 100 crs in the project and then later ordering it from somewhere else.
4)No challenging work or projects in india, MOST of the electrical engineers are dumb and does not have ability to innovate anything they can’t see beyond switchgears.

  21. Bhavesh J. V.

    Sir Zahid,
I want help from you as you always work hard to help the students especially Engineers,
So I am sure you will help me.

As I had completed my B.tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering(EEE) by this year from AICTE approved college.

And here I came to know that there is no scope (for EEE engineer) in Government field in my state (Gujarat).

As my syllabus of degree is almost same as Electrical Engineering (EE)
( if required you may compare syllabus here)

    http://www.rtu.ac.in/main/syllabus/Syllabus%20BTech%20Electrical%20subject%20to%20approval%20of%20Academic%20Co.pdf (Electrical Engineering)

    http://www.rtu.ac.in/main/syllabus/BTechEEE%20syllabus_08.09.09.pdf (Electrical & Electronics Engineering)

I want to know that is there same situation in other states as well as in other countries.

Can you get me details regarding this?

How can I came out of this trouble…?

    As already
GATE is considering EEE equivalent to EE
also other PSUs like NTPC,BHEL,ONGC,PGCIL etc. (who are the Pioneers of Electrical field) considering both EE and EEE similar.

While in my state Electricity board is also not considering EEE is equivalent to EE “GETCO” (Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited)

but while in other state they are considering EE and EEE both same
    For example
“MAHAGENCO” (Mahrashtra State Power Genration Co.Ltd.)
“MPPKVCL” (Madhya Pradesh Pashchim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Ltd.)
“RRVPNL” (Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd)

What should I do to get out of this, and to get government job in my state.
    Thanking you.

  50. Arpan

Average salary 3 to 3.5 lakhs? U have got to be kidding! EEE is considered to be the toughest of all Btech courses! People joke about it being a 5 year course squeezed into 4 years.

Surely, the average salary is higher for more reputed colleges. I would like to know the population from which the average has been calculated. Is it throughout India or only from a set of colleges?

    Thank u.
