Dropping A Year For GATE Preparation

Its been asked lot many times I wrote a post about my stand on that too, you can refer to Do I Need To Drop A Year For GATE Preparation for more details on it.

My view is always same when it comes to higher studies, we should move faster to complete it. But after reading comments on earlier posts and receiving stories of students who dropped a year and then banged it to IITs I changed my opinion.

Also, when I looked into my family, how my dad supported my sister for three years of coaching for MBBS, when whole society was against the idea, helped me understand the reasons to go ahead with coaching or just moving ahead.

I leave with the video for more on the subject.

I recommend you to avoid dropping a year by spending good time with subjects when you learn them first time. If you learn them well in first place you don’t need to spend a year more to crack GATE. On the same if you already did it, just go ahead and fully focus on studies. Dont waste the time you bought on the commitment of reaching out to the best institutes in the world.

    Hi,
This is related to M.tech admission in IIST. I am 2009 passout. Worked as systems engineer in an MNC. Quit my job in 2012 and attempted GATE-2013 and scored 440 with AIR-5142 in EE. I hope I wont get any NITS in south but shortlisted for IIST -(Geoinformatics and Earth Systems Science). Though I am interested in these courses, Are they worth doing in IIST, Trivandrum? Please help me to know its standpoint?? Will it lead me to research stuff??

Sir, I will be passing out B.Tech CSE this year from a college under WBUT. Our college didn’t bring good companies like TCS or CTS. I was hunting out for jobs till date in small companies in Kolkata but found many companies hiring on a condition to pay them some amount of money like 15 to 45k which is impossible for me.
Now my question to you is, If I do M.Tech from a reputed institute will I get a good job?Should I go for GATE coaching for M.Tech or should I wait for off campus of good companies? Is it worth waiting a year for GATE?,cause I am a mediocre student.

I got admission for Nano Science and Technology in Central University, Hyderabad, A.P. So please suggest me whether I can go 4 nano science and technology specialization in M.Tech? What are the prospects? Or shall I go 4 TCS?

@POORNIMA likes :D.Well thank you zahid sir for what u have been doing so long.I am also preparing for gate dropping this year.I just want to say that i did my own project in my BE ece, which made me to dedicate time on it,but i did the project under the advice of an iisc professor who liked this project indeed. After going there i realized dropping a year for gate is worth it,also if one can really understand the basics well,as an individual they can stand out with their own ideas and perceptions.

I am using nptel and mit opencourseware videos. Its superb to listen to those great lectures(which requires patience) and ofcourse we need to practice after that. There are lot of difference between us learning ourself from book and listening to a professor(in nptel) who can connect different subject concepts. It looks like one can even become better than some iit students.

ya its right srikanth..listng to nptel gives more info..

    Dear Zahid,
I have been reading your post and watching your videos .I wrote BITS HD yesterday and got a fairly good score(mostly CSE at pillani) , i wish to obtain a job after MTECH. I am mentally prepared to give another year for GATE and get into IIT or IISC (took admission at ACE,hybd for JUNE 23rd batch).I have no finacial or family obligation.I have prepared for both exam own my own and i am ready to put in more effort.I want to know is it worth to forgo another year and try and get into IIT for the sole reason getting better faculty and placement, or should just go with BITS Pillani.I want to get recruited into the top tier 1 Companies like Google, adobe,… Does IIT give an advantage in Placement over BITs for MTECH ?
